The EU funded EARTH (Energy Aware Radio neTwork tecHnologies) research project has won the Future Internet Award of the European Union (EU) int he first half of 2012. The award was handed over at the closing event of the Future Internet Week held during the Danish EU Presidency in Aalborg on 11 May, 2012.

The National Innovation Office’s (NIH) scope of activities are going to broaden probably from spring as the Science and Technology Observatory starts its operation, Dr. György Mészáros, president of the NIH announced at the meeting of the Parliament’s Innovation and Development Committee on 28th March.

The Dennis Gabor Association’s aim is to strengthen the scientific and social connections between Germany and Hungary. The organization wants to develop a forum to create connections in general and then to extend the created network to the field of science. The other aim of the Association is to elaborate new forms of cooperation which serve not only scientific but social goals as well. For example an educational programme is planned for Hungarian medical students who have to return back to Hungary at the end of the programme.

The fourth Future Internet Award competition is now open. This Award recognises excellence in innovation among Future Internet projects and initiatives from across Europe. The winner will receive a specially engraved Waterford crystal vase, as well as the opportunity to promote their work to a Europe-wide audience of industry, academic and public agency bodies

Running from 2014 to 2020 with an €80 billion budget, the EU’s new programme for research and innovation is part of the drive to create new growth and jobs in Europe.

The Minister was honored to accept the invitation from a country, where the traditions of scientific research date back many centuries.

A day-long workshop jointly hosted by BGI and the National Innovation Office of the Government of Hungary was successfully held on 19th of October in Budapest. This workshop is a step towards a formal collaboration after the two parties signed a cooperation framework agreement on the establishment of the Central European center of BGI last month.

1200 members of the nanotechnology community from over 50 countries gathered in Budapest, Hungary, for three days of presentations, networking and inspiration during EuroNanoForum 2011. The event was supported by the European Commission and Hungarian National Innovation Fund, and was organised by the National Innovation Office in partnership with Spinverse under the auspices of the Hungarian Presidency.

This conference was held under the auspices of the Hungarian EU Presidency and took place in the Hungarian Academy of Sciences in Budapest.

On December 9, 2010 NKTH held a workshop for professionals with the goal to get an overview on international programmes and related Hungarian R&D activities aiming at the development of a new generation internet technology and network. At the event renowned Hungarian experts discussed the international efforts made on the research and development of the next generation internet network, paying special attention to the relevant R&D programmes and initiatives of the EU, and the actualities of Hungarian research projects on the subject.

EuroNanoForum 2011 will be the fifth event in this series, and will take place under the Hungarian Presidency at the Budapest Congress and World Trade Center from 30th May to 1st June 2011. EuroNanoForum 2011 has received funding from the European Union's Seventh Framework Programme (FP7/2007-2013) under grant agreement n° 266810, and from the National Office for Research and Technology in Hungary.

Invited by the National Office for Research and Technology (NKTH), representatives of the ASPERA network (AStroParticle physics ERAnet – European Research Area network responsible for astroparticle physics) have conferred in Hungary. The main purpose of the initiative supported by EU is to join forces of the European funding agencies in astroparticle physics and develop a strategy for the future in this research field. The ASPERA network has prepared the European Strategy for Astroparticle Physics, which determines the most important research infrastructures needed in the area of astroparticle physics in Europe. The main objective of the ASPERA Hungarian National Day organized in Budapest on 15 October 2010 was to present the Hungarian science activities in astroparticle physics and the science funding system in Hungary to the other 21 partner funding agencies in the network. ASPERA is creating a roadmap for future directions in this research field and is identifying the large research infrastructure it will support in the near future, therefore it is important for Hungarian researchers to be informed about this decision making process and it is also imperative that the voice of the Hungarian research community be heard.

Preceding the EUREKA Ministerial Conference on 25th June, 2010 in Berlin, the EUREKA Innovation Award was presented to the Onom@Topic+ project, which was carried out with the active participation of Hungarian Compuworx Ltd. The project was realized within the EUREKA MEDEA+ (with the theme of microelectronics) cluster, focusing on the development of the European citizenship card system and mobile multimedia applications.
